I am excited to drop off this new work for my solo show NEXUS at Gallery in the Woods today.  If you are in or near Brattleboro, VT this summer please stop into the gallery located on Main St. to see the show....You are officially invited! The show will be ready for your viewing on July 1st.

For those of you who are out of the area my website has been updated with the new work and you can view it there. It is in the 2014 portfolio section. 

Although I am excited and relieved to have this show delivered today, my plan is to continue painting at a  diligent pace through out the summer and fall!  I have hit a stride in the studio and I am going to keep on going.  Have a wonderful summer! xo~Alicia

Three artists explore form, energy and movement from the smallest scale that humans have discovered to the sacred geometry of nature to the realms of the human body. Informed by science, observation and intuition, the invisible is brought to light in three distinct styles developed from deep exploration and fine craft. The word Quintessence, from the ancient Greek for the mysterious ‘fifth element’, is now used as a descriptive term in cosmology for equally mysterious ‘dark energy’. It is a fitting theme for the desire of artists to make the invisible visible and show the underlying energy sources in and around us. This is the exhibition catalog for Quintessence, Three Visions at the Ram Dass Library of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York, April 20 - October 30, 2014.

This project is funded in part by the Amherst Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council and by Hampden Gallery of The Fine Arts Center

Details: This workshop is geared toward 12 participants ages 16 and up. It is perfect for artists and crafts people. Amherst residents will be given priority and other participants from surrounding towns are welcome to apply.

Participants will need to bring several black and white xerox images made on an office copy machine. (not a printer)

All other materials are provided. Additionally, you will be given a number of prepaired sufaces to experiment on, this includes one sheet of  9”x12” prepared heavy weight paper and one 4”x 4” canvas to work on.  

Description:
I will teach workshop participant about a variety of xerox transfer processes and the different ways that they can be applied in creating paintings or other kinds of art. I will demonstrate the process I use in creating my artwork. Participants will then be walked through the process as they create their own. Participants will leave with at least one xerox transfer work of art on heavy archival paper, a materials list and written directions for future projects.

This workshop will last approximately 3 hours.

Topics covered include:

·         How to use digital technology to create an image

·         Materials and multiple usage explanation

·         How to apply a xerox onto a variety of surfaces

·         Problem solving techniques

·         How to seal the image and layer for use as a painting

·         Painting techniques in acrylic and oil for use with the xerox transfer method.

I finished this painting last night!  It is painted on three 5"x7" panels and can be hung with more space between if desired. The colors were inspired by the "On Your Mark" painting that I did which is in the post below.

This piece was originally was one of my samples for the xerox transfer workshop. Which it still could be if it doesn't sell right away! Now though, it is a finished piece instead of being just a transfer. Bringing small samples is preferable to carting my larger pieces around to workshops.

My next workshop is happening in early April for the art department staff and selected "star" students at Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner, MA.
 





On Your Mark

On Your Mark project: Sketch to Painting

             Today I submitted my paintings for the On Your Mark project spearheaded by artist Christine Texiera.  Each artist participating submitted a sketch this past fall to be grouped and painted by other artists.  This is the sketch I submitted and the painting that I did based on the sketch. I did 4 paintings total for this project.  When all the artists who participated have uploaded their finished images there will be a website to see how each artist translated the original sketch into a painting.  I am very excited to see how this all comes together.  I will post the link when its all up and running.

Xerox Transfer Workshop

I provide a number of prepared surfaces that will be available to experiment on. (9”x12” heavy weight paper, and 4”x4” canvas)

Participants should bring several freshly made black and white xerox images to play with. Copies made from an office copier within 24 hours before work best. (computer printers do not work well) Xerox copies should be no bigger than 8.5 x 11”

In an intimate setting at my personal studio, I will teach workshop participants  about variety of xerox transfer processes and the different ways they can be applied in creating paintings or other kinds of art. December Studio Update

As we enter the holiday season and the new year I find myself re-evaluating the direction of my work. Lots of internal shifts are happening now and time is passing by so fast!
I am not surprised that my painting pace has been slow....though I am loving the new work that is starting to emerge!

I do have a few new pieces almost finished and they will be debuting at an exhibition held at Hampden Gallery, on the UMass, Amherst Campus this January, details to be announced soon.

The Xerox transfer workshops have been going great! I have been hired recently by two different colleges to present at private events and other public dates are in the works. There is even a possibility that a local cultural council might fund a workshop next year.

I did not receive any of the grants I applied for to help fund my lofty ideas and new work.  I am actually quite relieved because my painting pace has been relaxed and my proposals were quite challenging.  I am ok with this as other exciting projects and shows have filled in for next year which will also be just as challenging  but in a different way.  There is even a strong possibility that I will be showing in NYC for the first time.

The Summer studio sale ended today and 4 of the 6 paintings found new homes.
I am very pleased with the results and am happy to have a few new collectors. I plan to offer a small collection of paintings for online sales seasonally.
