On view in the main gallery space are a forest of tree sculptures,
a garden inspired meditation floor painting, a painting of a sparkling waterfall,
alcohol-ink paintings on tiles, and paper flower sculptures in a variety of
sizes.
Hunsicker’s ethereal, open ended paintings made
their first appearance in a
solo show at Hampden Gallery 10 years ago. In this
new body of work,
aptly titled “shift”, the artist’s signature orbs and floral
motifs have
have shifted from two to three dimensional.
Her process
involves gathering together materials that are headed to be discarded.
This body of work is comprised 80% or more of recycled materials.
Hunsicker
repurposed these materials in unexpected ways -- all while
keeping
notions of a lush edenic garden somewhere in the mix.
Of the shift
that has occurred in the works in the exhibition, Hunsicker writes,
“ By
keeping my studio practice in line with my spiritual practice I trusted
that
the resulting works would in some ways express my view of the world.”
