In this exhibition that features paintings, drawings, and sculpture by the artists who comprise Hampden Gallery’s monthly critique group – form and content battle each other for supremacy.

December Studio Update

new work in progress
Alicia Hunsicker, 2013/14
As we enter the holiday season and the new year I find myself re-evaluating the direction of my work. Lots of internal shifts are happening now and time is passing by so fast!
I am not surprised that my painting pace has been slow....though I am loving the new work that is starting to emerge!

I do have a few new pieces almost finished and they will be debuting at an exhibition held at Hampden Gallery, on the UMass, Amherst Campus this January, details to be announced soon.

The Xerox transfer workshops have been going great! I have been hired recently by two different colleges to present at private events and other public dates are in the works. There is even a possibility that a local cultural council might fund a workshop next year.

I did not receive any of the grants I applied for to help fund my lofty ideas and new work.  I am actually quite relieved because my painting pace has been relaxed and my proposals were quite challenging.  I am ok with this as other exciting projects and shows have filled in for next year which will also be just as challenging  but in a different way.  There is even a strong possibility that I will be showing in NYC for the first time.

Wishing you all a very happy holiday season! xo~Alicia

Website in Progress

I have been working diligently on a new website that will focus on my portfolios, artist statements, and resume and will streamline important information that I need to communicate with galleries and curators. This has been a long time in coming and is sorely needed. Funny, its been amazing that I have gotten away with not having one all these years!

This blog has been my make shift website.  Its been great keeping you all updated on my studio news, exhibitions, and new paintings which I will continue to do still but now in a more focused way. I will not need to keep everything I have posted in the past. I have already taken down all the extra images, updated the design, and when the website goes online I will take off the pages that are duplicated.

I can't tell you how excited I am to be able to present the full creative expression of the last 10 years of my life in this way. Looking forward to sharing when the new site is live.   xo~Alicia

Xerox Transfer Workshop

The xerox transfer workshop, that was generously funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, was a wonderful success.  10 Leyden artists gathered at the Leyden town hall to learn this fun process that they can now incorporate into their artistic practices.

The workshop is approx. 3 hours long. I would enjoy sharing this technique again with other communities. I am available to present this workshop individually or in a class or workshop setting. Please inquire about rates by emailing me at aliciahunsicker@verizon.net.

Workshop Summary:

I still have some coasters to finish, and I am painting the last round of about 12 or so  5x7 mixed media paintings now.  I will soon move onto the 8x10’s and then the 3 eye portraits.

I am happy to have gotten such positive feedback from those of you who have received your rewards.  It means the world to me to have had your support!

Xerox Transfer Workshop News:
The date for this workshop is being worked out with the venue this week. I will announce the details soon.

I have had lots of interest for only a 10 to 12 person workshop.
The Cultural Council which is sponsoring the workshop has informed me of its guidelines of participation.  Leyden Residents will receive priority with second priority given to Franklin County Residents.

For those of you that are out of the area who were interested in this workshop please consider hosting me.  I would be happy to give this workshop in other locations.

Alicia Hunsicker's art is undeniably beautiful. She is an expert at extracting the highly-detailed textures and fibers of the human body, bringing them from darkness, into the light, with a technical precision that rivals any modern-day master.
